What is Lane Keep Assist?

As part of the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver assist systems, the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) alerts you if your car starts to drift from its lane. Working alongside the other Honda Sensing systems, LKAS helps you stay safe on Midland roads. Learn more about what Lane Keeping Assist does and how it works on new Honda vehicles in this guide from Honda of San Angelo.

How Does Lane Keep Assist Work?

Lane Keeping Assist System scans road markings, and if you begin to drift from your lane without signaling, it will use both visual and tactile alerts to notify you. A Lane Departure warning will appear in the multi-information display, and the steering wheel will vibrate to get your attention quickly. The Lane Keeping Assist System can also provide steering input to help the car stay centered until you take action.

Can I Turn Lane Keep Assist Off?

The Lane Keeping Assist System, as well as other Honda Sensing driver assists, can be turned off if you so desire. Here’s how:

  • Press the MAIN button on the steering wheel until you see LKAS on the multi-information display
  • Press LKAS
  • You’ll see lane outlines on the display (dotted lines turn solid when the system is ready)
  • Press the MAIN or LKAS button to turn off the system

What is Honda Sensing?

The Honda Sensing package of driver assist systems comes standard, or is an available option, on most new Honda vehicles, such as the Accord Sedan, CR-V crossover, and Pilot SUV. In addition to LKAS, Honda Sensing includes the following:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
  • Honda LaneWatch
  • Blind Spot Information System
  • Cross-Traffic Monitor
  • Auto High-Beam Headlights

The Lane Keeping Assist System is one of the features you’ll find as part of Honda Sensing, but not Toyota Safety Sense. TSS offers Lane Departure Alert, but it doesn’t apply steering torque to help keep your car centered in its lane.
